Welcome! For some reason you have found your way to this website about the VD153.
VD153 is the name of an old, traditional wooden fishing boat from the Netherlands. “VD” stands for Volendam, a fishing village on the former Zuiderzee (now known as IJsselmeer).
The VD153 is a botter, a flat-bottomed vessel, specifically designed for fishing and sailing in shallow waters. It is made of oak and equipped with leeboards.
The VD153 was built in 1899. At that time, there were around 1,500 botters. Today only about 75 remain.
The Association for the Preservation of the VD153 is dedicated to keeping this historic vessel afloat. Our work, done by a group of enthusiastic volunteers, depends on chartering the boat (with crew) and on donations.
Enjoy the website! And if you feel as excited about the VD153 as we do, please consider making a donation (IBAN: NL45 RABO 0111 4054 91).
We hope to welcome you on board someday!
